Course: System design for sustainability
Challenge
Designing Locally-based, renewable, secure, cleaner and economically viable energy services for the eating system in Tlokweng, Botsowana located in southern Africa.
Concept
There are several empty and unused lands in the city that are provided
and maintained by the government. This land includes:
. Green area, where plants may be cultivated.
. (electrical tractors provided directly by the producer)
Common kitchens where equipment and kitchenware are shared between locals.
Solar panels on the rooftop of the kitchens provided by solar panel producers.
Water supplied by the water provider is used for cooking and watering the garden and it is paid per litre.
Pottery workshop with equipment and materials provided by the local pottery shop to make handmade kitchenware,
Excess energy created by solar panels on the kitchens will go to the main grid to be used by everyone.
What is
Cultiveat
Cultiveat is a common kitchen and urban garden. It provides a common kitchen that includes basic kitchenware. Connected to the kitchen is the common garden for cultivating food. For work on the garden tools are provided and an electric tractor. These services are pay-per-time, while water for cooking and watering is pay-per-litre.
Our Journey
To explain how CULTIVEAT in each section (Environmental, Socio-ethical, energy sustainability) has designed an innovative solution we created a diagram which is innovation diagram in distributed renewable energy (DRE) and Sustainable product-service system (S.PSS) field.
